This scene, in Centreville, Delaware, depicts the subtle changeover from the peak of growing season to harvest time, when previously coddled crop fields are left to fend for themselves against an array of intrepid grasses and weeds. This is by far my favorite time of year to paint in this area. Patterns develop in this new wild growth that help define the gentle rolling hills of the landscape.
