On this hazy afternoon, I was struck by the simplicity of this scene. A wide band of trees supports a smaller grouping in front, with a single linear element, the path, providing much needed tension in the lower right corner. However, the elementary quality of the composition allows for complex color development, especially where treetops meet the sky. By describing green in this area with purples and mauves, I went out on a limb, so to speak, without loosing believability.
