I am attracted to the pop art imagery of Wayne Thiebaud because his pies and cakes refer to lust and desire, emotions that I often experience when working with the sensuous colors of pastel medium. With a nod to Mr. Thiebaud, I have created my own series of dessert paintings that also include the often riotous colors of Fiestaware. This particular painting is an illustration of the relationship I was having at the time with my boyfriend who is now my husband. Realizing I must take the sour with the sweet, I was finally ready, after a long courtship, to commit to this wonderful man.
