In 2001, I began a series of paintings that focused on the idea of fulfillment. Influenced by the work of Wayne Thiebaud, I incorporated dessert imagery with the clean and colorful qualities of fiestaware in my own paintings. The flowered cloth in this particular image, reminiscent of the backdrop for The Dating Game of the early 1970’s, brings a lighthearted, retro feeling to the table setting. Lust, desire, and pleasure are emotions we can all relate to but are often unwilling to embrace. This work is meant to remind us to indulge a little from time to time.
