This painting was one I completed at a workshop with Wolf Kahn in the summer of 2002. We were staying at a resort called The Rock Gardens Inn which provides these quaint seaside bungalows perched atop the rock formations. It wasn’t easy, but I was able to secure my easel and painting supplies among these coastal crags. Mr. Kahn had just informed us that morning about the power of black, so I was determined to include it in this image, where it took up residence in the tree just right of the centrally located windows and white wall.
