This image represents my early illustrative style of painting in pastels. As a young professional artist still unsure of the path I would take, I wanted the challenge of rendering a collection of objects as faithfully as I could in order to showcase my skills to potential clients. I borrowed the doll from my best friend’s mother and gathered together some other supporting objects that my mother had around her house. Arranging the lighting from a low angle at the left, I illuminated the doll’s face, making the twinkle in her eye the focal point of this composition.
